TripAdvisor Collects Hotel Occupancy Tax?

  • Newcomer

I received an unsolicited email from TripAdvisor to sign up for listing on their site. I see that lots of you use them, so I'm hoping you can help. Their user agreement indicates that they may collect hotel occupancy tax--at their discretion--and pay on behalf of the owner. That's confusing to me, to collect it on some and not on others. Do any of you have this issue, and how do you address it? Thanks so much!

I think this applies to certain cities and states where the law requires that they do so. If they are the "merchant of record " it's their liability. With my integrated listings in FL they are not paying it on my behalf to date. But I think you should contact them to know the specifics for your listing.
