Is there a way for me to send a request for an additional amount to a guest? I know I can do an ‘one off charge’ to the card on file, but guest wants to get someone else in the party to pay for the extra fee and enter credit card themselves.

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks
      Rikke

        Hi @Rikke-Page,

You could modify your terms and add an additional fee.

Note: you might want to push back the “Due By” date to give the other person more time to pay the fee

If your renter has already agreed to this additional fee, you can record agreement to the new terms on their behalf.

The other person who is then meant to pay the fee can visit the booking confirmation page that will be emailed out to the renter when you change the reservation terms. They can pay the new fee from there.

I should mention that you can also disable automatic payments before modifying the terms to ensure that the original renter doesn’t get charged the fee automatically when you create the modified terms.

@Danny-Eiden - what’s to keep them from selecting to charge the credit card on file when they get to that screen? (pay when due with Visa…)

                  Hi @Jenny-Oest,

There is currently no way to force a renter to enter a new card once a card has already been entered for a reservation. If the renter accidentally pays with the card already on file instead of entering a new card, the charge can be refunded in the MyVR dashboard.

If you need to add an extra fee in this way to get the charge on a new card, I would recommend sending instructions to the renter telling them to click “New Credit Card”.

Edit: I stand correct. See this post

                  Cheers,
                  Danny

@Danny-Eiden - yes that’s why I pointed out that potential back door. If the rest of the reservation is already paid in full, could you disable the credit card on file?

Fantastic idea! Yes, you can disable the card that is already on file. This would remove it as an option from the dropdown menu on the booking confirmation page.

@Danny-Eiden - one final question - if you disable the credit card, will that prevent a refund of the security deposit to the card?

Good question. No, you will still be able to process refunds on the card. Disabling a credit card in the MyVR dashboard only prevents renters from seeing the card as a payment option in the checkout and booking confirmation pages.
