Google search console, indexing pages and adding sitemap
-
I am not sure if this is the right place to put this.
We have google analytics on our page but have not been able to have google search console work on our site. Also, we cannot get our pages indexed by google or our sitemap accepted. Has anyone had success with this? What are we doing wrong?
Thanks

Specifically what problems are you having with Google Search Console?
As with all MyVR sites, all of your website pages are indexed by Google automatically. Your sitemap is submitted and all of that is taken care of for you. It does take time, and getting big results is hard, but there’s an easy way to check how you’re doing with that, open a new incognito window. You’re actually doing pretty good:Lets google for “Mais Oui Dining Experience” (a page within your website)
You’re first on the page!
Google for ‘Mais Oui Jamaica’ - https://www.google.com/search?q=MAIS+OUI&oq=MAIS+OUI&aqs=chrome…69i57j69i59.4838j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=mais+oui+jamaica
First on the page!

To build on Tristan’s answer, Google’s webmaster tools are a bit confusing. When looking in the Sitemaps section, there are two tabs. One is All and one is By Me. When MyVR submits your sitemap to Google, it will show up under the All tab but not the By Me tab.

Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to turn that around but you can see on my end, it says 0 in both categories - By Me and All.

Hi Sherry,
From this article - https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/183669?hl=en
"The Sitemaps report landing page shows a list of sitemaps that you have submitted to Search Console. Only sitemaps submitted through this tool are listed; the report will not list sitemaps exposed through other means, such as robots.txt or google.com/ping.
If you’re interested, Site maps are specified in your robots.txt :
http://makeitjamaica.com/robots.txt
Your’s is here: http://makeitjamaica.com/sitemap.xml
This is how Google (and other search engines) becomes aware of them. I’ll fire up Google Webmaster tools and see what other info I can get for you.

After looking into this - I discovered the source of confusion. You must setup webmaster tools for the domain your website is served on, so for MyVR sites with a custom domain, that would normally be: mywebsite.com NOT www.mywebsite.com
Check what domain your site is setup to be served from by looking in your browsers address bar first. By very sure you using the exact domain, with or without www as applicable if you want to see valid data from webmaster tools.

You are a genius!! Thank you so much. That is exactly what happened. I always type in www.makeitjamaica.com and always assumed that was the url to use. In fact, I just checked and it does indeed convert to makeitjamaica.com.
Happy to say I have set it up at makeitjamaica.com and it is working.
Thank you so much. You guys are the best!
