COVID19 | Temporary Travel Restrictions

  • MyVR Employee

If any portion of your rental inventory is located in a region where there are existing or upcoming travel restrictions, see below for our two recommendations on limiting exposure while not disrupting your channel connections.

    1. Add calendar blocks for the duration of the travel restriction. Do not disconnect or take the listings down. This keeps your listing live, but unbookable. Ideally you're still able to market your inventory for future dates when things die down. It also keeps availability in your control.

    2. Consider adding content in the property description stating why there is a block of unavailability. Something along the lines of; "Due to the COVID-19 travel restriction mandates, we are not taking reservations between DATE - DATE." This doubles down on your efforts to stay compliant with any mandates by over-communicating to future travelers or anyone who may be auditing listing sites.

These recommendations keep listing availability and traveler communication in your control. Canceling or disabling listings, even temporarily, requires manual effort on your side & MyVR's side to get them back up and running, and we want to reduce any go-live friction in the future.

Our County has restricted all rentals under 31 days to those travelling for work or business on the "Essential" list.

We've updated our Inquiry response to inform guests of that, and have asked them to self certify if they are essential.

It's been working. People are generally honest when we ask.

Sadly, Construction was taken off our "Essential" list this week. That has always been a good vertical for us. They always run over their timeline.

We've update our Inquiry Auto Responder to reflect updated Guidance from our County Health Department.

Thank you for submitting an inquiry. We are currently reviewing your request and will get back to you shortly.

Monterey County has extended it's shelter at home order until further notice. The County has ordered we do not advertise or accept short term rentals of 30 days or less for stays,, unless:

    1. Our guests are coming for work deemed essential.

    2. To provide necessary care for a family member or pet in another household who has no other source of care.

3)To move residences, but only if it is not possible to defer an already planned move, if the move is necessitated by safety, sanitation, or habitability reasons, if the move is necessary to preserve access to shelter, or necessary to secure employment in an essential service.

    1. Travel related to the provision of or access to Essential Activities, Essential Infrastructure, Essential Governmental Functions, Essential Businesses, or Minimum Basic Operations.

    2. Travel to care for any elderly, minors, dependents , or persons with disabilities.

    3. Travel required by law enforcement or court order.

    4. Travel to manage after-death arrangements and burial.

    5. Travel to arrange for shelter or avoid homelessness.

    6. Travel to avoid domestic violence or child abuse.

    7. Travel for parental custody arrangements.

At this time, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors requires us to ask for all rentals, of 30 days or less; Will you be travelling, or performing work, deemed essential under State and Federal Guidelines?

If you can respond with an affirmative answer, we may proceed with your reservation.
